An #AlternateHistory Fantasy That Will Beguile You: The Gray Tower Trilogy

The Gray Tower Trilogy  |  Fantasy, Alternate History

From "The Man in the High Castle" to "Hell Boy," there's something awesome about alternate and secret history stories.  There's room to explore the "what-ifs" as well as see dynamic characters interact in such a different (yet familiar) world.

One such fantasy series, The Gray Tower Trilogy, sets its stage in an alternate WWII where the Nazis have recruited warlocks and vampires to help turn the tide of the war--and the Allies fight back with wizards trained by the Gray Tower.

Book #1 of the trilogy, The Tower's Alchemist, is now being adapted to screenplay, which is very exciting! Today, and up until October 3, you can download the ENTIRE 3-book set of the Gray Tower Trilogy for only 0.99¢ at major online book retailers. Don't wait for it to go back up to $5.99--get it now!

Book Description:

Three full-length Amazon bestselling fantasy novels in one collection: The Tower's Alchemist (now being adapted to screenplay), Dark Rift, and Circadian Circle.

Be a spy. Save the world.

If only it were that simple.

The Nazis have unleashed occult forces throughout Europe, and the Allies are forced to recruit wizards to help them fight in the streets of Europe and in the shadows.

Among them is the battle weary spy, Isabella George, a Gray Tower dropout trained in Alchemy. Longing for retirement and a life of peace, she accepts one final job-extract a deadly warlock from Nazi occupied France and prevent him from unleashing an alchemical weapon that will devour the continent.

But France is crawling with the Cruenti, vampiric warlocks who feed off other wizards. When things don't go according to plan, one Cruenti sets his deadly eyes on her.

Plans within plans. Plots versus counter-plots. Heists gone wrong, Vatican wizards, and the greatest manipulation of history that has ever been seen, is just a taste of what Isabella George is in for, in this action-packed supernatural spy thriller.

Detectives and the Supernatural: Interview with Ronovan Hester

A detective encounters a strange murder--and the supernatural is suspect. This is not going to be your average cop-meets-monsters story. Promise.

What Ronovan Hester brings us in the upcoming magical realism anthology, MAGIC UNVEILED, is sheer creativity with a unique twist. We caught up with him and hounded him with a few questions (book cover and links at the end of the interview!).

Author Interview: Ronovan Hester

Tell us about your story in the upcoming Magic Unveiled anthology, and why it's going to affect readers?
In Unusual Suspect, two detectives handle a case involving what are known as Hell Souls, souls that change places with human souls and use the human body as a host. I think part of the affect will be thinking of how there are different types of people that end up in hell, not just the outright evil.

What's your definition of magical realism (as a genre)? What gives it a unique quality?
I think magical realism is almost self-explanatory. It’s magic that is a reality and not an oddity. There are people who know about it and treat it as part of everyday life. With magical realism there are consequences that don’t go away that might otherwise [go away] when magic is involved in other genres.

What was the most difficult part about writing or fine-tuning your story?
Definitely word count. I had a lot I wanted to say and having to explain what Hell Souls were while developing a story at the same time. The story is based on characters from a book I’ve written. I have the people developed already, but the limitations make it that much harder.

What are the benefits to producing an anthology with other authors?

I think readers get to see different takes on a genre. We all have different stories and ideas of what the genre is.

If you could choose to be a character in your short story, you would be...
Detective Al Rodriguez is the narrator of the story and thus my mouthpiece, so I guess I would be him. He’s half Mexican and half Scottish-American. Not exactly my mix, but I am Scottish, Native American, and a dash of some other things.

Pick two of your co-authors to have over for dinner. Why?

Alesha Escobar would definitely be one because we’ve been friends for some time now. I don’t know the other authors, but looking at the information about them, I think Raven Oak would be a good dinner companion. It seems we have some similar interests.

Would you rather have immortality or immense power (financial, political)?

I think immortality would be good. With that you could gain knowledge and power over time.

What can we expect next from you?

I’m shopping a romance/coming of age novel around right now. I have several novels close to publishing worthy, from the Hell Souls book to a YA adventure novel.

Where can readers find out more about your books? has information on my debut novel Amber Wake: Gabriel Falling, a historical adventure set in 1705 England and the Caribbean.

Author Interview: Jayme Beddingfield - #magicunveiled

ATH readers, please welcome author and podcaster Jayme Beddingfield!

She's one of nine amazing writers contributing to the MAGIC UNVEILED anthology (which you can pre-order for only 0.99¢).

This is going to be good! If you're into shows like Supernatural, Constantine, and love reading Neil Gaiman, you're going to devour these tales that merge magic with the mundane.

Nine magical stories. Nine talented authors.

And one of them is here to share a little about herself :)

Author Interview: Jayme Beddingfield

Tell us about your story in the upcoming Magic Unveiled anthology, and why it's going to affect readers?

Journey to a New Home is the tale of a girls close relationship with her dying mother. As she's on the way to her mom in hopes of catching her before she passes, Beatrice draws her mother in familiar woods. This story speaks to the closeness we share with others, untethered bonds we create with those we love, and the uncertainty of death and what happens after.

What's your definition of magical realism (as a genre)? What gives it a unique quality?

Magical realism to me is the pieces of magic we catch in small moments or turn of events that are unexplainable. We all get those inklings [that] there is more to the universe, that there are things we dont understand. Magical realism is the unexplained and wondrousness of the world that most need to believe, and only some pay attention to.

What was the most difficult part about writing or fine-tuning your story?

Trimming the unnecessary pieces is a hard one for me, so much emotion and heart goes into every word I write. Wrapping my head around the parts that dont drive the story forward can be hard.

Its important to pay intention to how a story flows, so cutting out unneeded words and sentences are crucial to making the story the best it can be. Being able to see the unnecessary parts and remove them is tricky. Once the story was in its edited form, I felt good about what was cut and saw Beatrice and Emily shine.

What are the benefits to producing an anthology with other authors?

There are so many. Being in the company of other writers presents a wonderful opportunity to learn from others, and [making] strong contacts are for sure on top of the list. I am happy to have Journey To A New Home in such fantastic and talented company.

If you could choose to be a character in your short story, you would be…

Oh gosh, both Beatrice and Emily have some uncertain paths ahead, and being either of them wouldnt be easy. If I had to pick one, I would pick Emily, so I could see what she does first hand.

Pick two of your co-authors to have over for dinner. Why?

Well, I would have to say, H.M. Jones, of course, seeing as I already had dinner with her and she is charming company. I could always go for a dinner with H.M. I would also be delighted to dine with Alesha Escobar. I feel like we would have some fun and there would certainly be exciting conversation about plots and characters and books.

Would you rather have immortality or immense power (financial, political)?

Oh, thats a tough one. Immortality is attractive, but immense power is as well. Though I have no idea what I would do with such power, so I guess I would go with immortality, and once everyone I cared for passed, I would take to moose-laden woods and start a new life.

What can we expect next from you?

There is quite a bit Im excited about. I have co-written a high fantasy novel with author and friend, Rebecca Clark, called The Shadow Bearers. We have it currently entered in the Geek & Sundry contest. I am also working on a five book dystopian series with some really exciting and promising leads. H.M. Jones and I are also working on an anthology of weird Washington shorts expected sometime in late 2017.

Where can readers find out more about your books?

You can find out all you need about my projects, podcast, and forthcoming books on my site:
